The CULTEX® RFS Compact versions of our exposure modules combine all the advantages characterizing our high-precision CULTEX® RFS, high stability and robustness of the exposure process – essential preconditions for the generation of reproducible data. The CULTEX® RFS Compact is designed to house one type of cell culture insert size.

The new modular system consists of two main parts, the aerosol guiding module and the sampling module housing six cell culture inserts, which can be separately supplied with medium. The module can be used for analyzing the biological effects of the test atmosphere in all insert positions. Another option allows exposure of the cultures to the test atmosphere and clean air (negative control) in parallel by guiding the aerosol via the central inlet to 3 insert positions whereas the remaining 3 insert positions are connected to clean air.


Design and handling

● Modular system for six 6.5 mm or 12 mm commercially available cell culture inserts (COSTAR® and Falcon®). ● Manufactured from boron silicate glass, polished stainless steel, hard anodized aluminium, silicone, POM and PEEK ● All components are autoclavable ● Integration of the module into a specially designed rack system for higher stability and comfortable handling ● Exchangeable emission ducts according to the cell culture insert type chosen ● Tight connection to the aerosol guiding module by a specially designed locking device ● Efficient connection to the generation device for the test atmosphere via the central aerosol inlet ● Easy loading of the six positions by moving the sampling module on the rack system ● Cell culture maintenance ● Controlled medium level under each cell culture insert ● Integrated heating device


Performance

● Direct exposure of the biological test system ● Combined exposure to clean air and the test aerosol or to the respective test atmosphere alone ● Test atmosphere entering the CULTEX® RFS Compact via a central inlet from which six radial tubes guide the atmosphere to the cell culture inserts for exposure ● Individual exposure of the six positions via gas in- and outlets ● Homogeneous distribution and deposition of particles on the surface of the test cultures ● Dose-dependent exposure ● Individual medium supply for six cell culture inserts via separate medium inlets ● Stability and robustness of the system lead to reproducible results ● Measurement of various endpoints ● Analysis of histopathological, biochemical, molecular biological and genetic endpoints ● Direct exposure of mono- as well as co-cultures and tissue constructs of cell lines/primary cells of the respiratory tract or skin
